Injuries can be distressing in themselves—all the more so when they happen in the workplace. For the worker, an injury can impose a substantial physical and financial burden on them and can greatly affect their overall morale. For the employer, injury leaves can have a huge impact on the company’s bottom line.
At Endeavor Physical Therapy & Wellness, we understand the value of a healthy, fully functional workforce. Through our comprehensive, goal-oriented physical therapy programs, we work closely with injured employees to ensure they are appropriately diagnosed and treated, so they can get back to work quickly and safely.
Here is an outline of the components of our goal-oriented programs here at Endeavor Physical Therapy & Wellness.
Work Hardening Program
A work hardening program is a highly structured program designed to improve the physical (biomechanical, neuromuscular, and cardiovascular) and psychosocial functioning of the worker. The program involves the coordination between a physical therapist, occupational therapist, and other rehabilitation professionals.
Our work hardening program utilizes a wide variety of hands-on and equipment-assisted therapeutic techniques as well as progressively graded exercises—all geared toward effectively addressing the patient’s functional limitations and accelerating recovery. Our program also incorporates real or simulated work tasks as well as safe-to-perform home exercises that help the patient build endurance and physical capacity to return to work full time.
Work Conditioning Program
A work conditioning program is designed to help patients regain their systemic and musculoskeletal functions. Unlike work hardening, work conditioning is limited to function and physical conditioning interventions and therefore does not include behavioral and psychological components.
With our work conditioning program, we also have our patients perform simulated work tasks and home exercises. We educate our patients about injury prevention, proper body mechanics, correct posture and positioning, and the healthy pace for exercise.
We recommend work conditioning when an injured worker has made consistent progress throughout their rehabilitation process and needs only to overcome a small gap in their functional performance to be able to get back to their job function without restrictions.
